They could be called miracles in tiny bottles, but instead they’re called natural essential oils and they are perfect for skincare. Natural essential oils are plant extracts that hold a vast amount of different benefits. Over the past couple of years these organic oils have made their way into almost every kind of skincare item, and for good reason, because when used correctly they have incredible properties for moisturizing, reducing scarring or aging, improving skin texture and even normalizing oil production.
There are, of course, different natural essential oils for different purposes, so let’s talk about some of them:
Patchouli oil: Most people have certain distaste for Patchouli due to its use in low quality fragrances in the 60s, but don’t judge an oil by its smell. This essential oil has long been used in skincare for its cell-rejuvenating and antibacterial properties that help against signs of aging as well as eczema and inflammation.
Lavender oil: On the topic of smells, this is one that everyone needs in their lives for its ability to soothe the mind, but aside from that, its antimicrobial properties help speed the healing of cuts and burns as well as inhibit bacteria that can cause acne.
Tea Tree oil: This particular oil has become increasingly popular in the past couple years for its effectiveness in treating acne and spots. It contains antibacterial and antiseptic properties that help regulate the production of sebum and prevent clogged pores.
Grapefruit seed oil: Just like the fruit, this oil is rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants that protect the skin from free radicals that could cause premature aging. It’s also antiseptic which makes it perfect for healing cuts and acne. This essential oil also helps keep the skin clean and regulate oil production.
Chamomile oil:Sensitive skin greatly benefits from chamomile oil, because just like the tea does for your body, it soothes the skin and calms irritation thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties.
Essential oils can be found in their organic form or mixed with other oils and ingredients to develop an even more beneficial formula, some examples are the Aroma Scrub which combines lavender, lemon and ylang ylang oils to create a gentle skin exfoliant; on the other hand the Body Massage Oil in its cleaning & relaxing version contains chamomile, peppermint, lavender and sweet almond oil for an invigorating scent and feel.
